AMERICA, IMPEACH TRUMP AND DNC

If you live in the US, there’s a good chance that at some time on the late afternoon of Tuesday September 24 th 2019, you heard a strange, distant clicking noise emanating from the direction of Washington D.C. And you know what that sound was, right? It was the sound of Nancy Pelosi and the DNC suddenly snapping their collective spine into place and announcing that an impeachment inquiry of Trump was to be launched.

What has it taken to get us to this moment in time with Trump as president? The blatant disregard for the Constitution he is sworn to upheld? Or his divisive tribal refusal to be a president that represents all Americans? His numerous breaches of the Emoluments Clause by profiting from overseas sources while in office? Obstruction of justice? Clash of business interests with his position as Commander-in-Chief? The shadow of Russian interference hanging over the American democratic system courtesy of his bizarre fixation with Putin?

None of those seemed to be enough for the DNC to back impeachment proceedings being commenced against Trump, until now. Finally, Trump’s nefarious, overt and brazen political machinations with the Ukrainian president and the withholding of aid to that country to get dirt on the Biden family has finally pushed Pelosi to act – to an extent.

But just why has it taken yet another glaring example of Trumpian outrageousness to now only just result in the formal call to impeach? It is the duty of Congress to hold the President to account when Constitutional obligations are not fulfilled by him / her and / or the President has committed “treason, bribery, high crimes or misdemeanors” – which all sound uncannily like something that you would find on Trump’s resume after nearly three years of being in the Oval Office.

The House has been in Democrat control for nearly a year now and yet here we are, that amount of time on, with Pelosi “exploring” impeachment.

Such delay only serves to reinforce the deep suspicion that the leadership of the DNC are either incompetent, corrupt or their corporate donors are dictating what should be happening and when. Or all three. And none of those attributes are anywhere near effective enough traits to have when taking on something like Trump and his well-oiled machine of GOP and white nationalist lackeys and lickspittles.

Thankfully, there are some within the ranks of the Democratic Party that are not chained to such a DNC dinosaur mentality. For example, just recently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, true progressive and long-time advocate of Trump being impeached, summed things up nicely by tweeting:

“At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior ― it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him.”

Other Congressional names of note that have also been calling for Trump to be impeached for months now include Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders and Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.

Presently, there are 223 House Democrats who are now on the record as to supporting Trump’s impeachment. However, incredibly, that leaves 12 who are currently mute on the subject. The fact that 11 of those 12 happen to be in constituencies that Trump carried in 2016 should surprise no one.

Yet again, more evidence of the perfidious nature of some of those in the DNC – putting political survival over the interests of the country and the people.

The risk is that Trump has normalized the abnormal because he has been conducting himself in the most atrocious manner and essentially then getting away with it from day one in the Oval Office. Another presidential impeachment saga will surely only polarize pro and anti-Trump opinion, something that is already diametrically opposed, even further still.

We are then now confronted with the very real prospect of going into the 2020 Presidential election against the backdrop of a huge Constitutional and legal storm that would be impeachment.

Yet despite all of that, impeaching Trump is still the right thing to do. This is where the progressives in the DNC get it so very right, whereas the Democratic party dinosaurs get it so very wrong – the American people want their politicians to do what is right for them, their country and their democracy. Conversely, they do not want them to take action because of party big-wigs having an eye on the polls or on the tip of a corporate sponsor’s check-signing pen. At times of national crisis (and Trump is a very real, existential threat to the democratic health of the US), it needs courageous politicians of real conviction and moral fortitude to stand up and shout up for what is right.

It is time then to finally play hard-ball with Trump. He prides himself on his yawn- inducing “tough guy” image. Let’s see just how tough he is once he gets face to face with impeachment and an electorate and American people increasingly tired of his shocking, unpresidential antics.

In the latest jaw-dropper from Trump, he has further proven just how unfit he is for office by making a veiled threat of civil war should he be removed from office.

In a truly worrying tweet, quoting a staunch Trump supporting pastor, Robert Jeffress, Trump railed that: “If the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal…”

Read that back again – Civil. War. The man has no sense of anything other than himself. He needs to be gone.

It’s time to effectively impeach the DNC too, given their feet-dragging to date, and turf them from office. For real, progressive political change in the US, YANG2020 & Travel in Peace (TIP) Political Party is the only choice for voters. As the country’s first self-funding political party, they are not beholden to anyone but the people. So that’s no corporate donors or monied lobbyists to have to keep casting one eye back over your shoulder about – just a genuinely progressive, socially just political movement.
